Midsummer Extroversion

Hello!

Midsummer is here. The sun’s cycle has reached its peak. We arrive at the moment where the days are long and the nights are brief. It is a time of warmth, lightness, and extroversion. All the energy is channelling into our work and we are vibrating with that feeling of productivity and purpose. Those seeds set in the winter are now strong plants thriving on what feeds our creativity. Our creative powers are at their peak and now is a perfect time to share it with others.

How have I been channelling the midsummer atmosphere?

By showcasing my work

I’m happy to share with you all the news that I will be published in the 2026 Earth Pathways Diary. One piece of my artwork (Heyl) and two poems (The Liminal Space and Be Like The Seed) can be found among the other artwork, poetry and prose created by other like-minded artists who take inspiration from nature and deeply care for it.

If you would like to buy a diary (or the calendar), they go on sale today (21st June) at the Earth Pathway’s shop and the first 500 copies sold will be at an early bird discounted rate so be sure to pick up your copy. Enjoy beautiful artwork, poetry and prose from talented, nature-loving artists for the whole year.

Here is a sneaky peak!

Artwork showing creamy white sands and an estuary heading out to the sea. The sky and sea are a similar blue. These words accompany the image: It started with a breeze in the leaves. Summer was high. And then, I'd dropped, layer by layer, into a chasm... Cradled at the bottom of my abyss, looking up at pinpricks of light far above, I'm pleasantly spent; consumed. It's not dark and dank, this is sanctuary. I stargaze and sleep, trusting that the sky-high walls will recede of their own accord and I'll rise back to Earth. Awaken to integrate once more, adjusting to the next plateau as seasons shift again. But not yet... I want space and time. This lull is correct to lay in. Pausing is the only action. I rest. By becoming a prolific sketcher

I was inspired to start a sketching habit. Ditch the silly selfies while I’m out and about and take a pen and paper instead. It started as a month-long challenge and now it’s an enjoyable part of my routine. What I love about it is it makes me pause and take in my surroundings all the more. If you want to read more about my new sketching habit, take a look at my blog

I joined another art group

As much as I enjoy the personal, lonesome time I have when I am creative, I wanted to find like-minded individuals. Despite my usual introversion, I’m currently weirdly keen to be social. I’ve already gained so much through the writing community over the years, that I wanted something similar for my art. I love the exchange of ideas and inspiration that prompts me to try new things and experiment with my style. As well as the fun group of local artists I’ve discovered via Hayle’s Goat Gallery, I’ve also joined the Friends of the Towans Art Club. Towans means sand dunes in the Cornish language, and Friends of the Towans is a local charity that protects the dunes and the flora and fauna that call it home. Creativity and nature conservation are two things close to my heart and I love to combine them whenever I can. I had a lovely time with the group at the weekend sketching and getting to know everyone. I look forward to our next get together.

I’m getting outdoors

As I write this, I am visiting family and helping on the farm. Yesterday, we were sheep shearing. Swifts and swallows swoop through the barn while the sheep are led through and shorn of their fleece. It’s always a bit of a frenetic day, but it is one of those annual summer events in the farming calendar.

I’ll also be heading over to Penzance for the annual Golowan Festival because celebrating the seasonal shifts with the community is always great fun.

How are you enjoying the midsummer? Let me know!
