Spring’s Dawning

Spring arrives early in Cornwall. This is not a gentle awakening. Yes, the winds are warm and the air humid, but the Atlantic storms relentlessly pound the county. Storm Goretti brought 99mph gusts, uprooting trees and bringing widespread destruction (I said goodbye to my fences). Storm Ingrid had less destructive gusts, but it hit the south coast particularly badly, causing flood damage. Then followed Storm Chandra, bringing even more rain to saturated ground and swollen rivers. We’ve seen three times the average rainfall for January. Some parts have seen a quarter of their average annual rainfall.

Despite the windblown trees and soggy ground, the primroses are up, and the daffodil and bluebell bulbs are poking their lush green heads through the soil. Magnolias and camellias are either budding or already in flower, and the catkins hang from the hazels.

Snowdrops - their white heads bowed, illuminated by the low, golden sun.

Spring Cleaning

I am currently updating my website to better showcase not only my art, writing, and photography, but also how Cornwall inspires me.

Cornwall has forever been my home, and the land, people, and history provide the spark for my creative works. I want to make a website that invokes my own explorative wanderings through this landscape. Pages become pathways which meander and diverge, giving the viewer an opportunity to let their curiosity take them in the direction they wish to choose.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll find new layouts and fresh pathways to explore. My hope is that the website will evolve organically over time. New pathways will appear. Subtle changes will filter through as the seasons change. But the Cornish core will forever be its bedrock.

Watch this space!

By clearing out the clutter

I create new space

If you’d like to help me keep creating, a little support goes a long way.

What new creative projects are you beginning this spring? I would love to know.

Wishing you a pleasant Imbolc.
